I found an empty CD spool and added a flange (bought at Home Depot). The flange added weight to keep the stand from falling over.
Next, I made a pin cushion from some scrap fabric and leftover poly-fill. The pin cushion was vertical leaving one end open. I placed the open end over the CD spool and glued this in place.
Now, I have a pin cushion that also serves as a spindle to keep my bobbin rings nearby. Works great!
